Speech team second at Cathedral meet

Princeton 10th grader Jessica Lindstrom gives a speech on the various aspects of the high heel, including its history and the social reasons behind wearing them. Lindstrom finished in seventh place in the informative speech category at the St. Cloud Cathedral speech invite. Princeton finished second overall.
The speech season has officially started and the PHS speech team got off to a strong showing with a second-place overall finish Saturday, Feb. 4 at the St. Cloud Cathedral Invitational meet. The team placed second out of 13 schools and had four medalists in first through third place, according to PHS speech coach Thor Mattick.
Princeton’s Bailey Stottrup (Extemp. Reading) and Melissa Trunk (Poetry) were first-place award winners. Tom Crawford (Prose) finished in second place and Andrew Sorenson and Vince Steele (Duo Interpretation) and Kenny Cowles (Extemp. Speaking) turned in third-place performances.
Another 10 students placed in fourth through eighth place in their categories, Mattick said.
Princeton has a very young team this year with almost 20 first-time speech competitors, he said.
The team’s next meet is Saturday at St. Francis High School.
