Swimmer, wrestler advance to state

Swimmer Sam Christenson and wrestler Josh Linder have advanced to the state tournaments this weekend in their respective sports.

Christenson advanced in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.00 at the section tournament in Grand Rapids this past weekend.  He will swim in the first heat of the preliminaries Friday against Isaac Bimberg of Faribault, Tyler Gort of Montevideo, Jamie Falkowski of Chisago Lakes and Seth Peterson of Sartell.

Linder defeated Brient Pokornowski of Dassel-Cokato by an 11-5 decision to advance as Princeton’s lone entrant in the state wrestling tournament. Linder received a first round bye and then went on to pin Andy McDonnell of New London-Spicer in 1:59, followed by a pin of Foley’s Cameron Svihla in 1:06.

Billy McClay, at 152 pounds, and Louie Servaty at 138 pounds, narrowly missed a trip to state. Both lost in battles for true second to claim third-place section titles.

Wyatt Ross at 160, Cory Messer at 132, and Tim Bialka at 113 all finished in 5th place at the section tourney.
