When prom kicks off with the grand march at 4 p.m. on Saturday, at least one Princeton High School student will be arriving for the festivities in style.
Ashley Stensrud and her date Patrick Knutson won the prom package of a lifetime on St. Cloud-based 98 Country radio after answering a simple question.
The couple was asked to answer, in nine words, why they should be the winners of the contest.
Their response — because it was only nine words — was simple.
98 Country listeners were then asked to vote. They chose Ashley and Patrick.
Ashley could hardly contain her excitement when she learned that listeners had chosen her response as the winner.
“When he called me to say that I won, I screamed and dropped my phone,” she said.
“It hung up on Dave the radio host and I had to call him back,” Ashley said with a laugh.
“I am so excited for prom to be here because prom is also on my birthday, so it is going to be the best night,” she said.
Ashley is a 98 Country listener herself and that’s where she learned about the contest.
So what did Ashley win in order to celebrate prom and her birthday in style?
“We are winning a dress and accessories valued up to $400, a limo, flowers, tanning, and hair and nails,” Stensrud said.
In addition, Patrick is receiving a tux rental of unlimited value, she said.
With such an exciting prize package, Ashley’s prom day is going to get off to an early start.
“I have an appointment for my hair and nails at 10 a.m. and then I get my makeup done,” she said.
When the hair, nails, and makeup are done, she’ll be off to Patrick’s house for photos at 2 p.m. The couple then plans to head for the grand march at about 3 p.m.
More photos will be taken during the grand march, followed by dinner, she said.
