Princeton High School tennis player Isaiah Mayerchak will be making his second consecutive appearance in the boys state tennis tournament after finishing second at the section meet Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
Mayerchak, who entered the section tournament undefeated, lost 6-2, 6-1 to Forest Lake’s Dusty Boyer in the section championship game. Both players earned a trip to state as the top two players in the Section.
Mayerchak, seeded second in the south behind Boyer, defeated Gus Fedje-Johnston of Grand Rapids in his opening match.
That pitted Mayerchak against the north’s number one seed, Michael Fontana of Hibbing. Mayerchak lost the opening set of the match 7-6, but rebounded with 6-2 and 6-1 wins to earn a trip to state and a date with Boyer in the sectional finals.
Mayerchak will open state tournament play Thursday, June 7 at the University of Minnesota tennis center.
