Elvis impersonator Kevin Lueklke, of Beroun, added some spark to this year’s Mother’s Day luncheon in Princeton on May 9 at the VFW Club meeting room.
June Kunkel, of Princeton, emceed the annual event for the 32nd year, which this time had the loon theme. The luncheon drew 97 women to the event in which 20 honorary titles were given out that honored mothers. Door prizes went with half of those titles.
Examples of the honors handed out were: mothers who were the oldest, youngest, lived the farthest away, had the most boys, had the most children in the military, the youngest great-grandmother, and was closest to Mother’s Day in becoming a mother or having a new grandchild,
Attendee Dolly Fairchild, of Cambridge, who is a former Princeton city clerk, sang for the audience and then introduced Elvis, who did a lively performance, sometimes getting up close to attendees at their tables as he sang.
Among the more serious honors was the announcement of longtime VFW Auxiliary supporter Helen Stark as the Auxiliary’s newest Sweetheart Queen.
Kunkel said afterward that she is grateful for the many who donated time and materials (Princeton Floral donated the floral arrangement) to pull off the luncheon which involved making centerpieces and other decorations, serving the meal and more.
Seven people attended the Mother’s Day luncheon for the first time and talked about how much they enjoyed it, Kunkel added.
