Paul Larsen

Paul Arthur Larsen, 75 of Kelliher, died June 1, 2012 at The Wellstead in Rogers surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born on March 4, 1937 in Chicago to Chris Larsen and Alma Dybbro, both Danish immigrants. He was raised in Itasca, Ill. and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College in 1959, where he was president of the student body his senior year. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1964. He worked for 3M Corporation for 11 years, followed by almost 25 years as General Counsel for United Power Association in Elk River (now Great River Energy).

Paul married Carol Hasler, daughter of George and Mable Hasler, in December 1963 and they lived in Minneapolis, where their children Jonathan and Susanne were born.  Following several years in Hudson, Wis., Paul and his family moved to Princeton in 1976.  He served his community on the school board and was a long time member of the Princeton Lions Club. He was also active with the Macalester College Alumni Association. Following Paul’s retirement from UPA in 1999, he and Carol moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. They returned to Minnesota in 2006.

Paul enjoyed reading, particularly presidential histories and biographies. He also loved animals, most dearly the family dogs Bella, Olive, Pablo, and Nucca, as well as the cats he rescued, Jeeves and Lucie. He cherished his family, his friends, and all things Danish.  Those who knew him will miss Paul’s kind heart, generous spirit, and endearing sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Copenhaver. He will be deeply missed by his children, Jonathan and Susanne, and his wife of almost 50 years, Carol.  Other family members include sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Barbara and Clare Zickuhr, Oregon; Nancy Hasler, New Mexico; Dennis and Marilyn Hasler, Fertile, and many nieces, nephews and their families.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in Paul’s memory to two causes he loved: Macalester College or the animal rescue organization of your choice.
