Dick was born on July 28, 1932 in St. Paul, son of Leland and Jean (Riebe) Matthewman. He spent the early part of his life in St. Paul and when he was 13, the family moved to Princeton, where he continued his education, graduating from Princeton High School in 1950.
He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage with Lila Jopp on June 29, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Princeton. They made their
home in Bogus Brook Township, rural Princeton and in 1956, moved to Wyanett Township in Isanti County on Highway 95. They moved into Princeton in 1987 and in 2005 moved to Lila’s family’s home farm in Bogus Brook Township (Martin & Lorina Jopp farm).
Dick drove truck over-the-road with Fingerhut, then for Kenneth Ratzlaff hauling logs until the early 1970’s and then drove for
Cloverleaf-Marigold-Kemps until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering (he could build anything, if he wanted to). He and Lila
enjoyed traveling. He and Lila were longtime members of Bethany Lutheran Church, Princeton.
He is survived by his wife: Lila of Princeton; four daughters and son Kathie (Daniel) Peterson of Elk River, Keith (YunSoon) Matthewman of
Zimmerman, Kara (Tim) Guldbrandsen of Princeton, Kamille (Tim) Cheese of
Milaca, and Korinn Paul of Milaca; 16 grandchildren, 23 greatgrandchildren and one great greatgrandchild; brother-in-law Lyle Jopp of Princeton and sister-in-law Lora Matthewman of Milaca.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leland and Jean Matthewman; brother Kenneth Matthewman; son Kevin Matthewman; daughter Karla Matthewman; grandchildren Amee Paul, Michelle Feigl and Walter Schmidt, Jr.
Funeral services were held held Saturday, June 9 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Princeton. Burial was in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Princeton.
