Princeton Speedway: July 6 results

Sweltering heat, then winds and cool air, and finally rain showers is what brave Princeton Speedway fans and drivers battled Friday night to watch some WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Series action. The night was cut short due to the heavy rain that lasted 20 minutes, but no one went home unhappy especially Denis Czech, Troy Kuehl, and Dave Read who took home feature wins.

The Coors Light WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were first up for the night with Doug Frederick and Alan Bohlman leading the way. As the green dropped Frederick cruised out into the lead with Bohlman and Dave Siercks battling for second. Siercks then moved to the low groove and took over the lead with Bohlman and Frederick at it for second. Frederick took second and Bohlman fell to third with Jeremy Nelson at his side. Nelson took over third and slid next to Frederick for second as the yellow flew. The restart order was Siercks with Nelson and Frederick in tow. Siercks and Nelson took points one and two and began to speed away as Nelson moved next to Siercks for the lead. Frederick was running fourth and noticed Justin Oestreich and Denis Czech on his rear. They ran three wide but another caution would fly. Siercks took off as the green flew again, with Nelson following him in second. Frederick, Bohlman and Czech went three wide for third and Czech took the point. Bohlman and Frederick continued the battle for the fourth point with Bud Martini moving in. Frederick took fourth, but Martini quickly stole the point putting Frederick in fifth. Czech was on the move and closed the gap on Nelson for second as Oestreich made it back into the top five. Another restart slowed the drivers down but this put Czech next to Nelson for second. As the green flew Czech took second and moved next to Siercks for the lead. Oestreich was working the high side and went from fifth to third as they went through a curve putting Martini in fourth. Martini moved to Oestreich’s side while Czech made the pass on Siercks and took the lead. Oestreich held off Martini keeping third and moved in on Siercks for second. One more restart slowed the drivers down and lined them up side by side. Czech was alone in front with Oestreich and Siercks behind him. Czech sped away as the green flew and Oestreich locked into second. Martini then passed Siercks and took third putting Siercks into fourth. Nelson took fifth, then moved next to Siercks for fourth and after a short battle, Nelson took the spot. Nelson began to close in on Martini for third, but time was out as Czech took the checkered flag and won. Oestreich, Martini, Nelson and Siercks took the top points.

Ross Mead and Mitch Hribar brought the Viking Coke WISSOTA Mod Fours onto the track for the next feature. As the green flew side by side battles took place throughout the field. As the first lap was completed Hribar nudged his way ahead of everyone and took the lead with Troy Kuehl taking second. As they went through turn one Ross Mead and Josh Abrahamson made contact resulting in Abrahamson going around. The yellow flew and Mead was charged with the caution. Hribar was first on the restart with Kuehl and Dean Larson behind him. Kuehl took second and kept close to Hribar as Larson and Thell battled for third. Hribar and Kuehl pulled away from the competition and Kuehl started to work Hribar for first. Hribar kept the lead while the battle for third heated up. Matt Halls took over third with Larson and Thell behind him. Thell moved next to Halls for third while Kuehl made his pass on Hribar and took the lead. Kuehl put his foot down and began to pull away as Thell took third from Halls. Thell then began to close in on Hribar for second with the laps winding down. As the white flew Thell was right behind Hribar, and as the checkered was in sight he gave it one last push. Kuehl took the checkered and won the feature with Hribar keeping second and Thell in a close third.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were next up to race with Kyle Howland and Behn Mensen on the front line.  When the green flew Howland and Mensen battled for first with Brad Schmidt and Justin Pogones battling for third. Mensen broke away from Howland and took the lead with Howland holding second. Pogones and Schmidt were on Howland’s rear as Schmidt moved to his door. Schmidt took over second and Dave Read moved into third. Howland fell to fourth and had Pogones at his side. Pogones took fourth while Read slid next to Schmidt for second. Read took second with Schmidt and Pogones behind him. The top drivers began to spread out as the yellow flew and slowed them down. Mensen was first on the restart with Read on his rear, Pogones was in third with Scott Baron and Jack Peterson were in the top five. Read went to the high groove and in no time passed Mensen taking the lead. Mensen kept second as Pogones moved in on him. The sprinkles that had been falling turned into bigger rain drops and drivers began to slide around on the track. Pogones continued to work Mensen for second as the rain unleashed forcing the race to be called. With 15 of the 20 laps complete the race was considered finished awarding Dave Read another Street Stock feature win. Mensen, Pogones, Baron and Peterson took top points.
