Veterans services event planned for August 18

We are pleased to announce our fourth Mille Lacs County Veterans Day Event scheduled for August 18, 2012 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Mille Lacs County Fairgrounds in Princeton.

The goal of this event is two-fold, to provide education on veteran’s benefits and to honor our veterans for their service to this great nation. This year we are working through our local veterans service organizations as in the past; however, this year the local veteran service organizations have formed an event committee to spearhead this event.

This year Doc Moss from the Military Service Association in Isle has volunteered to chair the organization and coordinate this event for our veterans.

Our veterans will receive a complimentary meal, with a choice of ham, beef or chicken with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes, and a variety of deserts; the meal will be served by members of the Boy and Girl Scouts. Benefits information will be provided by guest speakers and representatives from Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs; education benefits, outreach and the State Soldiers Assistance Program, the VA Medical Center St Cloud, American Legion. Veterans of Foreign Wars. and the Minnesota Assistance Counsel for Veterans.

The Minnesota Vet Center is scheduled to have the mobile Veterans Van open for Veterans tours; this van is used to provide counseling services to rural veterans. Other military vehicles will be on display.

There is a limit of 400 advanced reservations. It is necessary to reserve a spot by calling the Mille Lacs County Veteran Services office at 320-983-8208.
