The hot muggy Friday, Aug. 24 weather did not sway a huge crowd for showing up for the opening night of the 2012 Outlaw Grass Drags, hosted north of Princeton off Rum River Blvd.
Vintage snowmobiles were the feature draw Friday evening, with multiple heats run for a myriad of sweet old sleds. The three-day event is hosted by the Rum River Trail Association made up of six area snowmobile clubs (Mystic Riders-Princeton, St. Francis Sno Ghosts, Anoka Winter Knights, Grandy Northern Lights, Cambridge Drift Dusters and Milaca-Rum River Sno Riders). All proceeds go back into the area snowmobile trail system, explained Northern Lights member Vern Fix of Braham.
Saturday’s action at the Grass Drags holds NSRA Stock Class racing which gets underway at 9 a.m. Sunday’s events include NSRA Pro Classes (9 a.m. start), Kitty Cat/120 drags (12 p.m. start) and 120cc Oval Race (1:30 p.m.). Swap meet, tons of snowmobile & other mech toy vendors, many food & beverage booths are among the draws to the Outlaw Grass Drags. It’s like a State Fair for all things snowmobile!
