Daniel Milender

Daniel N. Milender, 62, Princeton, died Friday, August 24 in Princeton.

Daniel was born on August 22, 1950 in Warroad, son of Floyd and Lucille (Zahara) Milender.  He grew up and was educated at International Falls,

graduating from high school in 1969.  He moved to Minneapolis, where he attended Dunwoody Institute and began working as a welder at Carter Day in Fridley.

He was united in marriage with Cheryl Bettinger on May 20, 1978 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Oak Grove.  At age 38, Daniel was injured on the job and began working as maintenance man for a 120-unit apartment complex in Plymouth.  After eight years, the family moved to Crown, where Daniel worked in the liquor store and did mechanic work for his neighbors and local farmers.

He enjoyed restoring vehicles of 1960’s vintage and also snowmobiling as a member of the Mystic Riders Snowmobile Club.  He enjoyed fishing for walleye on Rainy River, and horseback riding.

Despite his childhood, his home was always open to anyone.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl of Princeton; son Travis of Princeton; daughter Shannon of Princeton; grandson Reed; father Floyd Milender of

Blaine; stepmother Deloris Milender of Brooklyn Park; siblings Melvin (Mary Lou) of Bemidji, Barb (Jim) of Jefferson City, Mo., Sharon of Champlin, Doris (Bill) of Blaine, Roseanne of International Falls, Sheila of Mitchell, S.D., Fred of Minneapolis, Marilyn (Bob) of Gillette, Wy., and Joseph Dion of Zumbrota.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lucille; brother Gene; and his wife’s parents: Joseph and Margaret Bettinger.

A service was held Saturday, September 1 at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Princeton.
