A Princeton man is among two men who died Saturday, Sept. 8 when their boat capsized on Lake Winnibigoshish in northern Cass County near Bena.
The body of Clarence Dickens, 53, of Princeton, was found at about 5 p.m. Sunday, about 200 yards from where his boat had capsized Saturday, according to Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch.
Burch said the county dispatch center received a 911 call at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday alerting the office to the capsized boat.
Responding officers located the boat and several items floating in the water near the boat, Burch said.
At the time of the accident conditions were very windy with wind gusts between 30-40 m.p.h., he said.
An initial search of the area was performed by boat as well as with the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, Burch said. The search was called off at dark but resumed again Sunday morning.
At approximately 9:35 a.m. the body of William Daley, age 43 of Minneapolis, was located near shore. The search continued and at approximately 5p.m. the body of Dickens was located approximately 200 yards from where the boat was initially found, Burch said.
Both victims were taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, he said.
The search was conducted by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Lakes Area Dive Team, State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources, Leech Lake Tribal Police and Leech Lake conservation officers.
