Bernice Arlene Butler was born on January 31, 1914, in Northwood, Iowa, daughter of Ira and Emma Butler. The family moved to Motley, MN, when Bernice was young and she grew up and graduated from high school there. Following graduation, she moved to Princeton to find work and met her husband Walter here. They were united in marriage on November 17, 1937, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Princeton, and made their home on his family’s farm northwest of Princeton. They farmed for many years and she continued to live on the farm after Walter’s death until entering the Elim Care & Rehab Center three years ago.
Bernice enjoyed crafts, including sewing, baking, gardening and fishing,
Bernice is survived by her children: Lorraine (Tom) Shinnick of Brooklyn Center, Sharon Hanson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Gary (Evelyn) Deglmann of Princeton, Steven (Linda) Deglmann of Princeton, Pegi (Paul) Kovach of Denver, Colorado; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; brother: Roger (Ruby) Butler of St. Louis Park.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Ira and Emma Butler; her husband: Walter on February 28, 1996; two sisters and three brothers.
Visitation: One hour before services at the church on Thursday.
Funeral: 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 4th at Christ Our Light – North Campus, Princeton, MN.
Burial: St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery, Princeton, MN
