Cross Country sweeps at Foley
SPORTS ROUND-UP: The Princeton cross country teams took on three GRC foes and swept the titles at the Sept. 27 Foley Invite. The win was the boys’ third and girls first this season.
“Ryan ran well leading the Tigers. The rest of the boys did a great job filling four top-12 spots Our team gap was 1:23, down from 2:00 from the beginning of the season,” noted Tiger Coach John Auel. “The girls team got a little help from our two middle school stars– Samantha Swedir and Madison Jung who will run with the varsity the rest of the season. Only 37 seconds bewteen our first and fifth runners.”
Boys Soccer battles Bulldogs closely
With 1:25 left in the final OT, junior Zach Vieau scored the game-winning goal as Becker slipped past visiting Princeton 2-1 in a Sept. 25 GRC boys soccer match. Chase Arens scored the tying 1-1 goal for Princeton at the 22nd minute off a Tyler Leverty assist, and the Tigers muscled 16 shots on the Bulldogs net.
In their other action last week, Princeton fell to host St. John’s Prep 5-0 in a GRC match Sept. 27. On Saturday, visiting Cambridge-Isanti defeated the Tigers 10-3 in non-conference action.
Swim/Dive 9th at Ranger Invite
Princeton scored 171 points to place 9th at Saturday’s Ranger Invite at St. Catherine’s University, with Roseville and Mahtomedi claiming the top two spots. Tiger highlights: Claire Barthel winning the 100 Backstroke (1:05) and 5th in the 200 IM (2:32); Montana Lawrence 2nd in the 500 Freestyle (5:38) and 6th in the 200 Free (2:07.6 – PB); Divers Megan Gourley (302.6) and Amanda Groebner (273.0) placing 2nd and 3rd.
GRC losses for Tiger Volleyball
Princeton dipped a bit in the GRC standings with two losses last week. Against Little Falls at home Sept. 25, the Tigers fell in three: 25-16, 25-16, 25-11. Then on Sept. 27, it was host St. Cloud Cathedral sweeping in three: 25-16, 25-16, 25-10.
The Tigers’ Homecoming match will be Oct. 4 against Zimmerman. The week continues with the Braham Invite on Saturday.
