Eugene Zeroth

Eugene “Gene” Zeroth, 78, Princeton, MN, died Saturday, September 29th in
the Dora Lake area in Itasca County from injuries suffered when his Rascal
Scooter was hit by a vehicle.
Gene was born on June 23, 1934 in Saint Cloud, MN, son of Raymond and Ella
(Lubbesmeyer) Zeroth.  He grew up in Greenbush Township, Mille Lacs County
and attended country school at District # 5.  He served in the National
Guard and worked for Odegard’s Garage before entering the US Army in
September of 1953.  He served two years active duty and was stationed in
Alaska with the 11th Airborne Division.  He was honorably discharged on
September 29, 1955 and returned to service with the National Guard.  He was
united in marriage with Arlene Leider on May 7, 1960 at St. Edward’s
Catholic Church, Princeton.  They made their home in Princeton and he worked
construction up north for a time and then worked with the Franklin Company
in St. Cloud for three years before starting with the City of Princeton,
where he worked for thirty years, retiring as the Director of Public Works
in 1994.  He served on the Princeton Fire Department for nine years while
working for the city.
Gene enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors, including hunting, fishing,
four wheeling and snowmobiling.  His family knew him as the adventurous
type, always taking the scenic route or investigating where a trail led.
Survivors include: his wife: Arlene of Princeton; four children: John Zeroth
of Bock, MN, Patrick Zeroth of Colo, Iowa, Lynette (Jim) Sterling of
Jacksboro, TN, and Richard Zeroth of Foley, MN; eight grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren; siblings: Donna Mae (Leonard) Hermanson of
Princeton, Shirley (Mel) Steinke of Zimmerman, Henry Zeroth of Princeton,
Joan (Bob) Miller of Zimmerman, Leroy (Kathy) Zeroth of Talkeetna, Alaska,
Linda Finley of Rush City, and brother-in-law: John Ryan of Golden Valley,
AZ.
He was preceded by his parents: Ray and Ella; sister: Rita Ryan; and
daughter-in-law: Kathy Zeroth.
The funeral was held on Friday, October 5th at Christ Our Light – North
Campus, Princeton, MN.
Burial: St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery, Princeton, MN.
