Mattress burns beneath semi on Highway 169

Baldwin firefighters and Sherburne County deputies had an unusual fire call early Tuesday, with the firefighters at first being called to put out a semitrailer truck fire at 7:40 a.m.

The fire was actually a mattress on fire that was hanging below a truck northbound on Highway 169 at about 303rd Avenue.

Baldwin firefighters didn’t have far to go to the location, which is about two miles south of Princeton, and about a mile from the Baldwin fire station.

When the firefighters arrived, deputies had put most of the fire out with extinguishers, said Baldwin fire captain, Joe Kiel. The firefighters then soaked the mattress remains down with a fire hose.
