The Princeton High School football team shut out Hermantown 42-0 on the road to win the Section 7AAAA championship and a berth in the state high school tournament.
Tiger quarterback Zack Ludwig was 10 of 12 through the air for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also ran for a pair of one-yard TDs.
Chase Lindenfelser had a big night on the ground, rushing for 116 yards. The Tiger running game finished with 242 yards.
The #3 ranked Tigers took a 21-0 halftime lead over the section’s #1 seed with touchdowns from Billy McClay and Zack Ludwig.
McClay’s 20-yard touchdown reception from Ludwig put the Tigers up 6-0. Chase Lindenfelser made it 8-0 with a successful two-point conversion. Ludwig then scored two successive touchdowns from the one yard line on quarterback keepers. After the first Ludwig touchdown Korben Weidenborner converted the PAT to put Princeton up 15-0. A two-point conversion failed after the third touchdown giving the Tigers a 21-0 lead heading into halftime.
Tiger running back Cole Warren put the Tigers up 28-0 with a 27-yard touchdown run. Weidenborner’s kick was good. That was followed by a 27-yard Ludwig-to-Travis Chmielewski touchdown pass on a 4th and 22 to put the Tigers up 35-0. Once again, Weidenborner’s kick was good.
Warren added another second half touchdown on a one-yard run to give Princeton the 42-0 victory. Justin Robillard added the PAT following the final touchdown.
The Tigers now head to St. Cloud State University next Saturday for a 3 p.m. game against 10-0 Detroit Lakes. The Lakers defeated Rocori 29-28 Thursday night in the 8AAAA section final.
The Tigers went 4-4 during the regular season but have turned up the heat, winning their last three playoff games while outscoring their opponents 119-37.
