A Zimmerman man and his passenger were able to escape without injury after their vehicle went through the ice Thursday evening. Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott said the incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. in a channel between Rush and Briggs Lake in Palmer Township.
The driver, Chayse Barrett, 22, said he was unfamiliar with the poor ice conditions between the lakes that remain unsafe for vehicle travel throughout the entire winter. The vehicle broke through in roughly three feet of water and required a tow for removal. Clear Lake Firefighters assisted at the scene.
