Hockey: Girls top I-Falls in double OT

The Princeton high School girls hockey team opened the 2013 playoff season with a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory over International Falls Thursday night at the Princeton Ice Arena.

Bridget Walter scored the game-winning goal at the 6:50 mark of the second overtime. Suzi Voce got the assist on the goal.

Voce put the Tigers on the scoreboard first with a goal at the 4:09 mark of the first period. International Falls’ Jessica Hell tied the game four minutes into the third period.

Princeton’s Kara Schramel had 17 saves. The Tigers (13-9-3) took 35 shots on I-Falls goalie Keanna Carlson.

Next up: Proctor-Hermantown Tuesday night in Cloquet (6:00 p.m.) The Rails (17-6-1)are the top seed in Section 7A and defeated No. 8 Silver Bay Area 4-0 in their Feb. 7 quarterfinal game.

In the lower brackets, No. 2 Hibbing-Chisholm beat No. 7 Chisago Lakes 4-1, and No. 3 Moose Lake Area blanked No. 6 Eveleth-Gilbert 4-0. Those teams play in the 8:00 p.m. semis at Cloquet Tuesday night. The Section 7A final will be Friday, Feb. 15 back at the Cloquet Ice Arena.
