Maria Carrasco, age 87, of Milaca, formerly of Peru, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the Princeton Elim Care and Rehab Center.
Maria was born January 21, 1926, the daughter of Valentin Carrasco and Maximiliana MayHuire in Villa Chiara, Andahuaylas, Peru.
Maria married Celestino Salazar in 1939. The couple made their home in Peru until moving to the United States in 2000. Maria and Celestino often traveled back to Peru to visit friends and relatives. In 2005, Maria became a resident of Minnesota, and was unable to travel back to Peru as frequently. She was a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church in Monticello.
Maria was a giving woman with a strong character. She enjoyed hosting parties for family and friends, as well as cooking for her family. Maria loved teaching and loving everyone she met throughout life. She also enjoyed knitting and dancing. Maria was always happy and had a great sense of humor. Family meant the world to Maria and she showed her love by raising her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Maria is survived by her children Elisa (Orlando) Villacorta of New Jersey, Olga (Alberto) Janampa of Peru, Elias (Lita) Salazar of Peru, Hayde (David West) Salazar of Milaca, Miximiliana (Ermes) Muniz of Miami, Fla., Vilma Salazar of Monticello; siblings Marcosa Huamani of Peru, Elias Carrasco of Peru, Alcides Carrasco of Peru; 30 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Celestino; son Genovevo Salazar; infant daughter Lidia; two infant sons, Wilfredo and Felipe.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Hope Evangelical Free Church in Monticello with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery.
