Nicholas Peter DeGreeff, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side on Friday, February 15, 2013.
He was born on July 25, 1927, to Peter and Clasina DeGreeff in Dell Rapids, S.D. He grew up on a farm in Chandler. After service in the U.S. Air Force, he married Delores Margaret Homan, in Slayton on June 4, 1951. After several years of farming in the Chandler-Lake Wilson area, he moved to Big Lake in 1960, and in 1963, he built his first home close to Elk Lake. In 1995, Nick built his second home in Zimmerman. Nick worked in all areas of construction and finished his career building Weston Homes throughout central Minnesota. Nick was known for his love of music, dancing, woodworking, golf, cribbage, fishing, BBQs and spending time with his family and grandchildren, and the many stories and jokes. He was a founding member of the Zimmerman Lions Club and a member of the American Legion Post 560.
Nick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dee; and eight children, Chuck (Sue) DeGreeff, Rhonda (Dave) Greenlun, Deb Neznik, Dan DeGreeff, Patty (Bob) Lundgren, Tom (Rose) DeGreeff, Nick (Judy) DeGreeff, Joe (Penny) DeGreeff; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, son Bob DeGreeff, son-in-law Joe Neznik and grandson Sammy Joe DeGreeff. Services have been held.
