Jerome Steffens

Jerome “Jerry” A. Steffens, age 83, of Princeton, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home.obit-Steffens,-Jerome
Jerry was born on February 10, 1930, in Minneapolis, the son of Anthony and Theresa (Winterhalter) Steffens. He graduated from DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis. Jerry started his work career as a plasterer, working for his father. He worked as a plasterer from 1948 to 1972, and then took a job as a building inspector for the city of Minneapolis, where he worked until his retirement in March of 1995. He was a Life Member of Union Local 365 from 1948 until present, and served as their recording secretary. From 1968 to 1995, he served on the executive board of the Plasterers’ Union. For many years, Jerry was a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Minneapolis, serving on many boards. In 1995, he joined St. Edward’s Catholic Church of Princeton. He served on the parish board at St. Edward’s Catholic Church (Christ Our Light Catholic Parish).
Jerry loved the outdoors. He was always outside and was very self-sufficient. If he didn’t have something he needed or wanted, Jerry would make it for himself. He did enjoy going for pontoon rides, fishing and gardening, and was known as a gifted storyteller. Jerry was especially proud of raising his six children and was very fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Sandra; children Deborah (Harry Davis) O., Barbara (Douglas) Hedin, Anthony (Dona) Steffens, Lawrence Steffens, Katherine (Nick) Buff; stepchildren Brian Udstrand and Shelly (Richard) Rohwer; grandchildren Christopher Frykman, Elizabeth Frykman, Erika (Nick Lepak) Frykman, Amber (John) Martin, Crystal Steffens, Janell DeMuth, Michael Buff, Joshua Buff, Sarah Udstrand, James Udstrand, Kayla Rohwer, Stephanie Rohwer, Lindsay Rohwer; nine great-grandchildren; brothers Raymond (Sally) Steffens, Vern (Phyllis) Steffens; sister Carol Wentzell.
Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia; son Michael; sisters Mary Weeks and Theresa Silkey; brother Alvin Steffens.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Christ Our Light Catholic Parish North Campus, Princeton, with Rev. Kevin Anderson presiding. Parish prayers were held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Christ Our Light Catholic Parish, Princeton. Burial was at St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery, Princeton.
