The Princeton High School speech team placed fifth out of 17 teams at last Saturday’s Zimmerman meet and fifth out of 22 schools in the March 2 Fridley meet.
PHS will compete this Saturday in Milaca, followed by the March 19 Granite Ridge Conference meet in Zimmerman.
“The kids are practicing hard and their hard work is beginning to pay dividends for them,” said PHS head speech coach Thor Mattick.
Individual results at the Zimmerman meet:
Discussion – Brian Kunz meet champion
Extemporaneous speaking – Kenny Cowles meet champion, and Alicia Aho third
Great speeches – Annika Peterson fifth, and Emma Carlberg eighth
Humorous – Matt Kreft second
Original oratory – Michael Huebsch honorable mention
Poetry – Sam Glauvitz honorable mention
Storytelling – Josh Malley eighth, and Gino Fraboni honorable mention
Duo interpretation – Alicia Maltz and Jamie Malley honorable mention.
Cambridge won the Zimmerman meet, with St. Cloud Cathedral second, Fridley third, Elk River fourth and Princeton fifth.

Humorous – Kreft meet champion
Discussion – Kunz second, and Nick Lagenfeld honorable mention
Duo interpretation – Andrew Sorenson and Vince Steele sixth
Extemporaneous speaking – Aho third, and Cowles fifth
Original oratory – Huebsch seventh
Poetry – Glauvitz honorable mention
Storytelling – Fraboni and Thorson each honorable mention.
Elk River was first in the Fridley meet, followed by Totino-Grace, Cambridge-Isanti, Fridley and Princeton.
