Princeton girls track and field members invited to the St. Thomas Select held their own at the March 30 indoor competition.
The St. Thomas Select is an elite indoor competition, showcasing Minnesota’s top boys and girls track and field athletes. The meet is an opportunity for senior, junior and sophomore/under athletes to compete in head-to-head, grade-level competition.
The Tigers had two runners place in the 400-meter. Senior Maddy Wood was second at 1:04.8 and sophomore Anna Oakes won her class’ race at 1:02.9.
Senior Jadyn Bonasera marked a 34–02.5 shot put attempt to place second at St. Thomas. Also representing the Tigers was junior Katie Bialka who placed second in the 55m hurdles at 9.18 seconds.
Both Tiger track squads are guaranteed a meet April 4 when they travel to the Becker Indoor for a preview of Granite Ridge squads.
Postponements pile up
The other spring sports teams at PHS are forced to keep their dobbers up while waiting for the snowpack to melt from the fields and courts. Tiger softball was supposed to open the 2013 season at Milaca April 2, and the team’s April 4 home doubleheader with Mora has been moved to April 11.
Princeton baseball’s April 4 opener at Mora is tentatively postponed to April 11, too, and the squad’s April 5 game at Cambridge is rescheduled for May 3.
Golf and boys tennis teams are in the holding pattern for next week’s events to see how conditions improve with the projected 50-degree and 60-degree days ahead.
