Dennie was born March 19, 1952, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to Maurine (Roberts) and Leonard Lee DeWall. His younger years were spent living in Ft. Dodge, Royal, Spencer, Remsen, and Kingsley, all in Iowa. As a teenager, Dennie spent many years playing drums in the family band, Curly’s Combo.
He married Jana Jensen on November 27, 1970, in Kingsley, Iowa. They lived in Kingsley for eight years, where daughter Marnie was born. Dennie worked for Missouri Valley Steel in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1978, he was transferred to their North Dakota division, Northern Plains Steel, and the family moved to Bismarck, N.D., where daughter Megan was born. In 1980, the family moved to Williston, N.D., for the next six years.
In 1986, the family moved to Princeton. Dennie proudly worked for Arrow Tank and Engineering in Cambridge for 26 years in sales and as sales manager until his illness last year. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ where he served on many boards and committees. His favorite positions at church were Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School teacher, which he did for the last 12 years until his illness. He loved the kids and together they had so much fun in Sunday School.
In 2004, he and Jan bought their dream house out in the country between Princeton and Zimmerman, where Dennie spent the next eight years cutting oak wilt trees down, planting new ones to replace them and working on his land that he loved.
Dennie always said he was blessed to have such a wonderful family, friends, career and life. He loved his girls more than anything and took great delight in raising them. He had even more joy as their husbands and grandchildren came into the family.
