Panthers head to EML West playoffs as No. 1 seed

Princeton will travel to Hinckley for this weekend’s Eastern Minny League West playoffs, needing two victories to keep the 2013 season alive.

The Panthers tied for first place in the EML West regular-season standings with Rum River, gaining the No. 1 seed for the playoffs via the tie-breaker. They will take on No. 4 seed Nowthen at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, July 27. The Panthers are 2-1 against the Knights this season.

A victory will send Princeton to the 4:30 p.m. game on Sunday afternoon at Hinckley’s Brennan Field. A loss would have them playing at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. If necessary, Princeton could host an elimination game on either July 30 or 31.

In the EML East tourney, also at Hinckley this weekend, No. 2 Hinckley opens against No. 3 Quamba at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and No. 1 Mora takes on No. 4 Ogilvie at 7:30 p.m. The two surviving teams from each EML division will then advance to the Region 1C tourney at Hinckley the weekends of Aug. 3-4 and 10-11.

• The Panthers get in a playoff tune-up game July 24 at the Elk River Pioneers (6:30 p.m.).
