Monticello repeatedly came up with the big plays on defense in a 20-6 victory at Princeton in the Aug. 29 season opener which marked the Tigers’ return to the Mississippi 8 Conference.

Princeton lit the scoreboard first when junior QB Sam Archer scored on a 1-yard sneak. But the Magic returned the ensuing kickoff 76 yards and kicked the extra point for a 7-6 lead in the first quarter.

Magic wideout Andrew Manning broke off a long slant pass which set up his team’s second touchdown late in the second half. Monti added a 1-yard insurance touchdown run with 7:36 to go in the game.
