Byron Francis Hylen, age 73 of Princeton, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 24, 2013, due to a heart attack.
Byron was born on December 1, 1939, in Minneapolis, the son of Roy and Ruth (Bastin) Hylen. He was united in marriage to Sharon Sonsteng on November 30, 1963 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
Byrons number one love in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a standout father and role model for his family. After his family, Byrons second love was for Model-T cars and was a founding member of the Great Northern Model T Club. Byron also had a love of trains; he enjoyed model railroading and had an interest in steam locomotives.
He was a Cubmaster and Scout leader. Byron enjoyed hunting in northern Minnesota, camping, gardening and biking. He also loved lutefisk as well as chocolate ice cream. Byron was very active in his church, serving as the president of the church council, singing in the choir and chaperoning church youth trips to the Boundary Waters. Byron talked a lot about God and took great comfort in knowing he was a sinner saved by Gods grace through His son Jesus Christ. He will always be remembered as a calm, appreciative man and excellent listener.
Byron is survived by his wife of 49 years and 10 months, Sharon; children Roger (Jennifer) Hylen, Eric (Nicole) Hylen and Karen (Paul) Metty; grandchildren Francis and Dominic (Lauren) Metty, Emma and Jacob Hylen, and Allie and Joe; along with many loving extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Ruth; parents-in-law Ozzie and Helen Sonsteng; and his aunts, uncles and a cousin.
A service in celebration of Byrons life was held Saturday, Sept. 28 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Princeton. Interment was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Princeton.
