A large gas leak in the city of Zimmerman on September 4 closed off access to part of the city. Reported at about 2 p.m., emergency vehicles were dispatched to 3rd St E and Fremont Avenue in response to the call.
Excavating crews working on a road project in town had struck a gas line and ruptured it. Zimmerman Fire Department, with the aid of Elk River Fire Department, were able to determine a safety zone.
Ten to 12 businesses inside the area were evacuated. Stores resumed business about 4 p.m.
