By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Princeton, MN (August 30) – Friday night marked the end of the 2013 season at the Princeton Speedway. The night of WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Series action was full of side by side racing action with Justin Pogones, Jason Hall, Kyle Thell and Matthew Dibb taking feature wins and Shane Sabraski taking home double.

The feature events of the night kicked off with the WISSOTA Street Stocks. Alec Nesbit grabbed the lead as the green flew with Jon Gunderson and Dave Read in a battle for second. Read moved aside Nesbit for first and they ran side by side with Justin Pogones behind them. Laps passed by and they still battled for the lead, however Read slowly broke away. Read claimed the lead with Pogones next to Nesbit. Nesbit then retired to the infield putting Pogones in second.

Pogones grabbed the high line and drove passed Read for first. Pogones and Read drove away from the others and Pogones kept Read back long enough to take the checkers and roll his Lake State Recycling sponsored streeter into victory lane. Read, Jon Gunderson, Amanda Milbrandt and Becker took the top points.

Read and Pogones battled side by side all season, and Read ended up taking the Championship with a one point lead over Pogones.

Ryan Putnam and Gino Fontecchio led the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds on the track, and Putnam took the lead. Fontecchio held second with Jason Hall and Dave Siercks at it for third. Hall took the low line, moved into second, and next to Putnam. Hall took the lead and Putnam fell to second while Denis Czech made his through the traffic. Hall stretched out his lead as Czech took over the second point. The Toepper’s of Jacob and Elizabeth then made contact in turn two brining the yellow out.

Hall was first on the restart with Czech and Putnam in tow. Bud Martini drove between Czech and Putnam for second, but Czech retained the point. Czech then drove to Hall’s door and they went side by side the remaining laps. As they came down the front chute, Hall had just enough of a lead to take the feature win in his Shooters Bar & Grill sponsored machine. Czech, Martini, Siercks and Putnam took the top points.

Martini took the Midwest Modified Track Championship.

Keith Thell claimed first as the WISSOTA Mod Fours took the green. Kyle Thell and Chad Funt battled for second but Kyle took the point and passed his brother to take the lead. Keith held second while Brandon Linquist and Funt battled for third and Mitch Hribar followed. Linquist took third and Hribar moved next to Funt, but Funt sped away from Hribar and retook third. The yellow quickly flew and the drivers were reset.

Kyle was first on the restart with Funt and Keith behind him. Keith grabbed second and Hribar and Linquist moved next to Funt. Linquist took third this round and with two laps to go everyone passed Funt who suffered a mechanical problem. Kyle Thell took the checkers and the Track Championship for 2013. Keith Thell, Linquist, Hribar and Abby Garin took the top points.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks took the clay next and Larry Fitzsimmons sped into the lead. James Trantina moved into second and next to Fitzsimmons for first while Sabraski took third. Sabraski moved to the low side and went three wide with Fitzsimmons and Trantina for first. Trantina slid up into the cushion allowing Sabraski to grab the lead. Trantina and Dexton Koch were next to Fitzsimmons for second as Koch took the point. Sabraski was ahead by a straightaway when the yellow flew for Joel Collins coasting of the tracks edge.

As the green reappeared Sabraski took first, Koch claimed second and Trantina, Loomis and Fitzsimmons battled three wide for third. Loomis took third, Trantina grabbed fourth and Chris Wark moved into fifth as Sabraski took the checkers for his second week in a row.

Brandon Opsahl took first and Erik Gruhlke settled for second as the Hornet feature began. Matthew Dibb took third and moved to Gruhlke for second but Gruhlke kept him back. Dibb came back, took the point, and moved next to Opsahl. Opsahl kept the lead but Dibb stayed close to him. Dibb pulled ahead and took the lead but Opsahl kept close. The top five drivers raced near each other while Dannie Burkholder moved into fourth and next to Gruhlke for third. Burkholder made the pass in time to take third while Dibb and Opsahl took the checkers. Dibb took the win in his Lube Tech sponsored Hornet, and he also took the Championship.

The final race of the 2013 regular season belonged to the WISSOTA Modifieds and Charlie Hillukka and Jeremy Nelson led the way. Nelson grabbed the lead and Hillukka held second while Shane Sabraski battled Dustin Nelson for third. Sabraski took third and moved aside Hillukka for second. Hillukka maintained a slight lead over Sabraski, but after a few laps, Sabraski made the pass. Hillukka settled in third as the leader Jeremy Nelson pulled into the infield with car problems. Sabraski then assumed the lead but Shawn Fletcher then spun in turn four and the yellow flew.

Sabraski was first on the restart with Jeff Patchen and Hillukka at it for second. Patchen took the point and raced close to Sabraski while Dustin Nelson and Larry Zeller ran door to door for fourth. They closed in on Hillukka for third and with the white waving, Nelson and Zeller moved next to Hillukka. Sabraski took the checkers in his West Metro Buick GMC sponsored #7a with Patchen, Hillukka, Nelson and Zeller in top points.

Sabraski was the Track Champion for the Super Stocks and the Modifieds.
