St. Francis gets past Tiger Volleyball in five games

An exciting five-game match at the Princeton gym Sept. 19 ended with St. Francis tipping the Tigers 25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 14-25, 15-11 in a conference battle.

At the net, Jaydee Green led Princeton with 14 kills, with Madie Nierengarten (9) and Hailey Mattson (7) adding more winners. Beth Scharber led with three ace blocks, and Charity Hanson set up 27 assists. Miranda Fredrick (14/14), Melinda Meyer (17/17) and Taylor Sleen (10/10) all had perfect serving nights for PHS, with Fredrick slamming three aces and Meyer two. Scharber also popped for three aces against the Saints. Meyer led in the back row with 22 digs, and Hanson added 12 digs.

“I was so proud to see the girls come back with the fire that they did. They went from losing the first two sets by large margins, and then came back and turned it on,” said Tiger Coach Mary Patnode. “It was so fun, and although the outcome was not what we were hoping, our girls played awesome.”

Stat leaders from the Sept. 16 3-0 win at Milaca were: Green 12 kills; Hanson 31 assists; Meyer 23 digs; Scharber 2 blocks, 2 ace serves.

Princeton will next host the two Mississippi 8 leaders over a week’s span, facing St. Michael-Albertville Sept. 26 and Buffalo Oct. 3.

• On Sept. 24, Monticello hit past the Tigers in four: 25-14, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.
