Wildcats top Tiger Football to lead in M-8 Red

Chisago Lakes remained undefeated on the season by holding off visiting Princeton 28-12 Sept. 20. The Wildcats limited the Tigers to a season-low 119 yards on the ground and forced three turnovers.

With the win, Chisago Lakes kept a step ahead of Monticello in the Mississippi 8 Red Division standings. Those two teams will square off Oct. 11.

The Wildcats drove 65 yards on the first series of the game to score on a one-yard run for the 8-0 lead. The Tigers turned the ball over on downs at their own 25, and CL went up 14-0 on a nine-yard run.

Princeton answered back with a 67-yard drive capped by Billy McClay hauling in a 38-yard scoring strike from Sam Archer. The 14-6 score stood through halftime after the teams traded fumbles in the second quarter.

On Princeton’s second possession of the third quarter, Wildcat defensive back Will Gillach returned an interception 65 yards for a 21-6 advantage. Princeton cut it to 21-12 four minutes into the fourth quarter when McClay scored his second TD, this one on a 12-yard reception. The Tiger ‘D’ held on the ‘Cats’ next series, but the offense turned the ball over on downs at the Princeton 33 with 4:21 to play. Chisago added insurance points with a 32-yard scoring run from Josh Parks who led all rushers with 106 yards that evening.

Next up: Buffalo invades for the 2013 Tiger Homecoming game this Friday, Sept. 27, coming off a tough 34-27 loss to Monticello. The Bison are led by quarterback Tyler Spier (472 yards passing, 3 TD) and fullback Joseph Johnson (245 yards).
