Mayerchak, who won the Section 7AA title last week in Duluth, will open play at 8 a.m. Oct. 24 against Apple Valley junior Malina Wijesinghe. With a win, Mayerchak could face No. 2 seed Caitlyn Merzbacher of Edina in the quarterfinals which take place at noon on Thursday.
Also in that half of the brackets is No. 3 seed Isabella Lambert of Minnetonka. Consolation brackets will also run at State as players are guaranteed a minimum of two matches each. Action begins again at 8 a.m. on Friday morning and carries to the 11:30 a.m. consolation, third-place and championship matches.
In the other half of the brackets, Mounds View senior Summer Brills, the No. 1 seed, returns to defend her Class AA Singles title. The field is quite young this year, with just the one senior, six juniors, and six eighth and ninth graders in the 16-player mix.
