Princeton football seeded No. 3 for playoffs

Princeton Football closed the regular season with a 12-7 loss at Cambridge-Isanti on Oct. 16. With the loss, the Tigers (5-3) dipped to the No. 3 slot for this week’s Section 7AAAA playoffs.

Princeton will host No. 6 Grand Rapids (0-8) in the 7AAAA quarterfinals, 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. A victory that night would send the Tigers to No. 2 Cloquet (7-1) for the 2 p.m. semifinals on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Lumberjacks received a first-round bye, as did No. 1 seed Hermantown (7-1).

More Princeton High playoffs this week

Volleyball: Tigers seeded No. 9 for Section 7AAA & will open at No. 8 St. Francis Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.  Winner gets No. 1 seed Cambridge-Isanti on Oct. 25 (7 p.m.).

State Tennis: Princeton junior Mary Claire Mayerchak (34-0) will represent the girls tennis program in the Class AA Singles State tourney at the U of M Baseline Center. Mayerchak opens the round of 16 against Apple Valley’s Malini Wijesinghe at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24. Quarterfinal and consolation matches will follow at 12 p.m. No. 2 seed Caitlyn Merzbacher of Edina is also in Mayerchak’s portion of the singles brackets.

Cross Country: Princeton will next run in the Section 7AA CC finals which will be hosted at 2 p.m. on the Cloquet Country Club layout. At stake are berths in the Nov. 2 State Cross Country meet at St. Olaf College, Northfield.
