Tiger Girls Soccer gets North Branch for 7A playoff opener

Princeton will get at least one home game for this week’s Section 7A girls soccer playoffs as the second season begins.

After seeding was completed on Tuesday, the Tigers were dealt the No. 6 seed and will host Mississippi 8 partner North Branch (No. 11 seed, 4-11-1) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. Those two teams tied 1-1 in a Sept. 19 match.

A Princeton victory would send them to Saturday’s 7A quarterfinals at either No. 3 Chisago Lakes (7-5-3) or hosting No. 14 Eveleth-Gilbert (1-10-1). The Tigers and Wildcats also tied 1-1 in their M-8 meeting this season.

Also in that half of the brackets is No. 2 seed Duluth Denfeld (10-3-3) who received a first-round bye for Thursday.

Hermantown (12-1-3) is the No. 1 seed in Section 7A, earning a first-round bye in the other half. Proctor (7-8) and Cloquet (6-9-1) are the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds.

The 7A semifinals will be at the surviving high seed sites on Oct. 15, with the championship scheduled for Oct. 17 on Chisago Lakes’ turf.

• The Tigers wrapped up the regular season with a 2-1 loss at Rogers Oct. 3. Coach Heidi Finstad called it her team’s most complete game of the season, getting 80 solid minutes from her girls.
