Wanda Naydene Hopland age 81 of Foley, MN died Friday, November 22, 2013 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, MN with her family by her side. Wanda was born December 18, 1931 in Bancroft, Iowa to George & Ellen (Nyman) Johnson. She grew up in Bancroft Iowa and graduated from Swea City High School. She was employed at Welps Hatchary. She lived in Minneapolis and worked at Montgomery Wards and Sears. She moved to the Foley area in 1949 where she met her future husband Kermit Burton Hopland. They were married on November 7, 1953 at Glendorado Lutheran Church. She and Kermit farmed their Century Farm in Glendorado Township for many years. She is a member of Gods Greater Glory Parish. She was also active in Ladies Aid at church, Princeton VFW Post # 806 Auxiliary, Benton County Homemakers, and a board member of The CROSS Center in Foley. Wanda loved animals, especially her pigs and her dog, Spanky. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting, baking and cooking. She was a very social person, she loved spending time with and visiting with family, friends and even strangers. She had a knack at getting to know people and she had a great memory. She enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Her favorites were donuts, sugar cookies, Christmas cookies, fudge and divinity. She enjoyed participating in bake sales and other community events. She loved to can things out of her garden, especially her raspberry and strawberry jams. She enjoyed watching ball games, especially the TWINS and the high school basketball tournaments. She enjoyed bird watching and NASCAR in more recent years. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Wanette (Bob) Neske of Princeton; Karlyn Lewandowski of Foley; Wendolyn Hopland of Edina; grandchildren, Jake Lewandowski, Brittany (Todd) Benson, Brooke Lewandowski, Cole Neske, Devin Neske, great grandchildren, Katelin Neske, Kyler Benson, Mikabella Benson, Archer Benson and Pixilena Benson. She is also survived by her sisters, Lois Cunico of Marseilles, IL; Irene Reasoner of Princeton; brothers-in-law, Chester (Ruth) Hopland, and Bert Karels. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Evans Johnson, sisters, Viola Karels, and Verda (August) Brandt.
Funeral services will be 11AM Tuesday November 26, 2013 at Gods Greater Glory Church, 1100 NE 186th Avenue, Princeton, MN. The Rev. Barb Peterson will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 4-8PM Monday at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton and 1 hour prior to services Tuesday at the church in Glendorado Township. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton.
