Tiger girls rolls to two hoop victories

BASKETBALL UPDATES:  The Princeton girls basketball snapped a tough string by defeating St. Francis 67-56 in Jan. 21 Mississippi 8 action. Haley Sandin scored 22 and Taylor Laabs 10 to pace the Tiger offense that night.

Andie Jackson contributed eight points and nine rebounds against the Saints, with Danielle Chmielewski and Jenna Doyle both scoring seven. Chmielewski added six rebounds, and Sandin, Laabs and Jackson all finished with three steals.

Coach Andrew Fenske: “On Monday after the Rogers game, we had to decide what kind of team we wanted to be.  We finally wrapped up our tough stretch of games and tough opponents as well, and we wanted to  refocus on what we needed to do.  The biggest thing was believing in the family concept that I’ve instilling throughout the program.  The first half of St. Francis we weren’t playing the way we wanted to, but the second half we found out what we were truly capable of.”

• The Tigers worked for a 67-42 win over Cloquet on the St. Ben’s college court in the Jan. 23 meeting between the two Section 7AAA partners. Laabs paced the scoring with 19 points. Sandin added 14 and Doyle 12 points to go with 7 rebounds.

Coach Fenske: “Against Cloquet, we played the best team ball and looked like we were truly a family in one of the best games I’ve seen in the four years I’ve been here.  You could see it on the floor, on the bench, in the stands– it was really something else to see what we are capable of doing.  Hats off to our fans for truly getting after it, having fun, and working hard while playing the Princeton way. ”
