Republicans across the state, including Princeton, participated in a straw vote to show their preference for Republicans seeking the party’s nomination to run in the state gubernatorial race and U.S. Senate race. This year Gov. Mark Dayton and U.S. Senator Al Franken’s terms expire.
The Republican caucus in Princeton met in the Great Northern Room at the Mille Lacs County Historical Society’s depot museum center and convened by precinct chair Doug Dahl. The precincts represented were Princeton city, and Princeton and Greenbush Townships.
The caucus attendees gave the majority of straw votes to Dave Thompson for governor and Julianne Ortmann for U.S. Senate.
The attendees passed the following resolutions:
• That the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources manage Mille Lacs Lake using sound biology rather than treaty priorities.
• That the governor and Legislature oppose the proposed state anti-bullying bill.
• That the governor and Legislature enact broader accommodations for religious liberty and conscience of individuals who refuse to solemnize, celebrate or perpetuate same-sex marriage.
