A residential cabin on Little Elk Lake in Baldwin Township was destroyed by fire Sunday evening, Feb. 2.

The call to 14329 284th Ave. came in as a kitchen fire at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

When the second page was sounded at 9:37 p.m., the report had been upgraded to a fully involved fire, according to Mike Rademacher, fire chief of the Northeast Sherburne Fire Department.

The resident of the cabin overlooking Little Elk Lake was at a neighbor’s home watching the Super Bowl, Rademacher said.

“When he came home, there were flames coming out of the house,” Rademacher said.

When the first firefighters arrived on scene, there were flames coming from the roof and doors, Rademacher said. While the upper level of the structure appeared to be a total loss, there was not a lot of fire damage to the lower level, but there was a lot of water damage, the chief said.

With assistance from the Princeton and Zimmerman fire departments, the fire was under control by about 12:30 a.m. Monday.
