Tigers knock off Panthers 9-5

Collin Buness scored five goals and the team defense shined to lead Princeton boys hockey to a huge 9-5 home win over Spring Lake Park Jan. 30.

Buness notched the hat trick in the first period to match the Panthers’ output. He then scored 29 seconds into the second period, and Cam Paulson followed with a goal five minutes later to push the Tigers ahead for good. Later in the period, Derek Abrahamson and Buness found the net again for a 7-4 Princeton lead.

 • On Saturday night, the Tigers defeated Cambridge-Isanti 8-2 to keep the Blazing Blades/Rusty Skates traveling trophy in Princeton. Paulson scored 29 seconds into action, and Jake Carlson followed with a goal for an early 2-0 lead. Jake Green knock home the next Tiger goal for a 3-1 edge. Princeton then broke the game open in the third on goals by Green, Buness, Silas Reek, Tyler McAlpine and Billy Oakes.

• Princeton stayed hot at home by defeating Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake 3-2 in overtime Feb. 3, paying back an earlier OT loss to the Moose. Oakes  scored the game-winner off an Abrahamson pass 7:53 into the extra period.
