Lylla Thelma Gertrude Minks, age 97, of Princeton, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Princeton Elim Rehab and Care Center.
Lylla was born July 17, 1916 at home in Greenbush Township. She was the daughter of Peder and Johanna (Gofield) Abrahamson. She was the last of 11 children and the story goes she was given all the names left over. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Glendorado Lutheran Church where she was a lifelong member. She married Erwin Charles Minks on April 18, 1945. Two children joined their family; Dennis Lee and Joan Marie.
Lylla attended District 5 School. She worked as a nanny in Minneapolis and as a clerk at Nelsons Department Store. She also had a shop on Main Street called The Needle Point. She was a 45 year life member of the Princeton Legion Auxiliary. Church has always been an important part of her life. She was involved in Ladies Aide, Circle, quilting, teaching Sunday school, confirmation and a leader of Luther League.
She was also a great cook and catered many weddings and anniversaries. Her hands were never still. She crocheted, knit, made quilt tops and embroidered towels and baby quilts. She lived all of her life in the Princeton area. For many years she had her coffee on at 3PM every day for friends to stop in. Bingo was her favorite way to socialize.
Lylla was a town historian. She shared her memories of World War II with Social Study classes, The Princeton History Museum and anyone who would talk to her about the town. She was a strong inspiring lady and will be missed by many.
Survivors include her children, Dennis (Joannie) of Thief River Falls, Joan Marie or Princeton; grandson, Brian Minks of Thief River Falls; sister in-law, Anita Minks; and longtime friend Midge Young along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Erwin on November 26, 2000; siblings, Olaf, Tom, Katie, Abraham, Henry, Stella, Lloyd and Bill.
A Funeral Service for Lylla will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Gods Greater Glory Parish-Glendorado Lutheran Church, Princeton, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM with a time of prayer and memory sharing beginning at 6:30PM at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton and continuing one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will follow at the Glendorado Lutheran Cemetery in Princeton, MN
