Tiger Girls Basketball seeded 3rd for 7AAA playoffs

Princeton was seeded in the No. 3 slot for Section 7AAA girls basketball for the Friday, March 7 quarterfinals. The Tigers (12-14) will host No. 6 North Branch (12-14) in the 7 p.m. scrum; the teams split their two Mississippi 8 games against each other this season.

The 7AAA semifinals will be Wednesday, March 12 at Duluth Denfeld (Tigers’ half plays at 7:45 p.m.). An opening Princeton victory would have them facing either No. 2 Grand Rapids (17-9) or No. 7 Denfeld (8-18).

Chisago Lakes (19-6) took the No. 1 seed in the other bracket half. Hermantown (16-9) and Cloquet (14-11) are the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds. The Section 7AAA finals will be March 14 back at Duluth Denfeld.

• The Princeton girls finished the regular season with a flurry of four games in five days, going 2-2 in that stretch. On Feb. 25, they knocked off Zimmerman 67-54 behind 16 points from Haley Sandin, 11 from both Jenna Doyle and Taylor Laabs, and 10 from Anna Oakes. Oakes led with 10 rebounds, and Doyle racked up nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

The next night was a make-up game won by St. Francis 67-62. Sandin had 16 points and four steals, with more contributions from Laabs (11 points), Danielle Chmielewski (9 points, 6 rebounds), Doyle (9 points, 6 rebounds) and Jackson (8 points, 6 assists).

The Tigers’ final Mississippi 8 game was a 53-44 loss at Buffalo Feb. 28. Leading scorers that night were Doyle (9), Chmielewski (7), Ashley Schramel (6) and Julia Bjurman (6).

Sandin scored 18, Doyle 13, Oakes 11 and Laabs 11 when the Tigers defeated visiting Becker March 1. Chmielewski added 7 points and Jackson 5 points in the game the Tigers led 32-17 at the half.
