Princeton had high-level performances across many events when the Mississippi 8 track & field championships were hosted in Zimmerman May 20. The Tiger girls finished fifth and the boys were seventh at the meet where St. Michael-Albertville swept the two team titles.
The Tiger girls 4×100 relay of Taylor Laabs, Anna Oakes, Katie Bialka and Hope Humphrey placed second at 50.04, breaking their record set at the team’s last meet of 51.14.
“This time is one of the top eight fastest in the state this season and puts our girls in the No. 1 seed spot going into this week’s Section 7AA meet (May 28 and May 31 at Zimmerman),” commented Tiger Coach Tom Ostroot.
Bialka added an All-Conference award by taking second in the 100 Hurdles at 16.2. More Tiger girls earning All-M8 at the meet were Becky Case placing second in the high jump (4-08), Anna Oakes breaking her school record by placing fourth in the 400 (1:00.9) and taking fourth in the 200 (26.9). Taylor Laabs placed fourth for AC in the long jump (16-0) and added a fifth-place jump of 35-0 in the triple jump for Honorable Mention.
Working for more Honorable Mention status for the Tiger girls were Humphrey placing fifth in the 100 (13.3) and sixth in the 200 (27.3), Bialka placing sixth in the 300 hurdles (48.5), and Samantha Swedzinski placing sixth in the 3200 (12:38.2).
• Tanner Palmborg tied the PHS boys record of 22.56 in the 200-meter dash set by Mark Blaske in 1970 when he placed third for All-Conference in that event at the conference championships. Palmborg went All-M8 in the triple jump when he 41-06.5 for second place.
Palmborg also anchored the Tiger boys 4×200 relay with Billy McClay, Tate Walquist and Luke Warren which finished second for AC at 1:32.8. McClay also was All-M8 in the long jump by placing fourth at 20-0, and he was Honorable Mention in the triple jump (fifth, 41-0).
Warren was Honorable Mention in the long jump with a 19-06 leap. Cole Warren added an Honorable Mention toss of 44-10 in the shot put (fifth place), and Walquist was HM in the pole vault by clearing 12-0 (fifth place).
