Baldwin grading plan criticized

Robert Essig, owner of Essig Construction Company of Baldwin Township, attended the May 5 Baldwin Township board meeting to express his disappointment that the Township Board  decided to contract with Livonia Township for road grading services.
Essig’s company has been providing road grading services for the township for 33 years.
Especially concerning to Essig was Supervisor Larry Handshoe’s comment that the cost savings with contracting with Livonia Township would be minimal, but that Baldwin Township hopes to receive better quality road grading service.
Baldwin Township promised to revisit this issue at its next scheduled meeting on May 22.
Several business owners attended the meeting to discuss the needed road repairs on 125 1/2 Street in Baldwin’s business district.
The supervisors asked township engineer, Jon Bogart, to come up with a plan and some numbers for a 9-ton tar road and also a plan for some short-term solutions to the problem.
