Tons of playoff tennis on PHS courts

thomasMPrinceton was the host site for Section 7AA boys tennis, beginning on May 22 and running into this week. In the 7AA Singles tourney, Tiger freshman Thomas Mayerchak (left) won his first match 6-0, 6-1 over Andover’s Leisner on Thursday. Mayerchak then defeated Chisago Lakes’ Williamson 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals before falling to Elk River’s Josh Gearueau 6-0, 6-0 in the semis. The Tiger was playing East’s Schneider in the third-place match May 27.

Also in 7AA Singles, Eliot Arens (below) opened play May 22 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lisbon of North Branch. East’s Schneider then prevailed 6-0, 6-1 in the next round that day.

On Saturday in the 7AA Doubles tourney, Tigers Keenan Hansen and Jason Friend began with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Hamilton & Babcock of Forest Lake. They then fell 6-1, 6-1 to Gillach & Sullivan of Chisago Lakes in the next round. Also representing PHS in doubles were Schuler Volkmuth and Joey McCoy who dropped their lone match 6-4, 6-3 to Cambridge’s Holmberg & Merkouris.
