This year’s Princeton Ambassadors coronation will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at New Life Church. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for kids. A $1 discount will be given for displaying a Rum River Festival button.
Seven candidates are vying to be chosen this year for three ambassador positions. The candidates are Abbigail Otto, Julie Petron, Shania Halgrimson, Carina Schneider, Katie Kostrzewski, Ariana Johnson and Ashlyn Jorgenson.
Princeton High School teacher Margaret Miron and past Princeton ambassador Nicole Sorenson will be announcers at the coronation pageant, which is scheduled to have many visiting royalty, including Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes Riley Bruns and senior Aquatennial royalty.
The program will have the seven candidates performing a group dance and a presentation of the activities they have been in as part of running for Princeton Ambassador. Each candidate will also walk on stage in a formal gown and also appear in costume as part of their presentation on themselves and their sponsor(s).
The current Princeton Ambassadors – Hailey Wheeler and Allison Sterneman – will give a talk and slide show on what they did during their ambassador reign.
The Aquatennial royalty will also present this year’s Commodore’s Award to someone in the Princeton area who has performed outstanding civic work.
The Princeton Ambassadors will each receive a $700 college scholarship after completing their reign and one semester of college. Also, one ambassador each year at the end of her reign will have the opportunity to compete in the Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes competition. Wheeler will be the participant representing Princeton this summer.
The board has added one more feature to the program this year. It organized a reception at the Princeton Splash Park at Mark Park for two hours the day of the pageant, starting at 4:30 p.m. Pageant attendees will be able to get a reduced price admission of $3.
