Residents honored at auxiliary’s DSA Banquet

One business, two families, a group of club room patrons, volunteer bartenders and 14 individuals received honors at this year’s Distinguished Service Awards banquet, sponsored by the VFW auxiliary.
The annual Distinguished Service Awards banquet was held on Wednesday, June 11, in the back room at the Princeton VFW.
The banquet called upon the memory of Maya Angelou for inspiration in honoring Princeton residents who give of themselves for the betterment of the Princeton community.
Here are the organizations giving the honors, and the recipients:
n Great River Faith in Action – The Shilo Family, Faith in Action Princeton Volunteer of the Year Award.
n Princeton Rotary Club – Penny Quast and William Yueill, Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow awards.
n Civic Betterment Club – Joy Mulhern, distinguished member.
n Mille Lacs County Historical Society – Penny Quast, Lifetime Hero of the Princeton Depot and Mille Lacs Historical Society.
n Mille Lacs County Agricultural Society– Jack Edmonds, distinguished citizen award.
n Princeton VFW and its Auxiliary – Kim Randall, Sweetheart Queen; Carla Carignan, Good Job Award; Volunteer Bartenders, distinguished service award; Patrons of the VFW club room, distinguished service award; K-Bob Cafe, distinguished service award (for baking over 400 pies for VFW Thanksgiving dinners).
n American Legion Auxiliary – Dorothy Fries, life member; Jean Tiedt, woman of the year; Marilyn Patton, Poppy Queen; Janelle Whitcomb, president-elect.
n Knights of Columbus, Christ Our Light Catholic parish – Elizabeth Lekatz, certificate of appreciation for improvement of life.
n Living and Learning Committee – Dennis and Marsha Haubenschild, learning and living business partner; DeNice Janssen, learning and living volunteer of the year.
