Letter: Walsh will bring respect to county attorney office

At this point, Joe Walsh is the only common sense choice to be our county attorney in the upcoming Primary election.

After the most recent controversy, it is plain to see that the atmosphere at the county attorney’s office is toxic.  I don’t think either the current county attorney or her assistant challenging her can effectively manage the office after what has happened.

It is clear the the current county attorney holds a grudge and is willing to use a technicality to her advantage.  Is that the kind of person we want as county attorney?  It is easy to use the office of county attorney to do the same to any citizens of Mille Lacs County that she may hold a similar grudge against.  The citizens of Mille Lacs County can’t afford to take that risk.

Her assistant challenging her has clearly lost the respect of his fellow co-workers and the county board.  How can he lead the office and advise the county board at this point?  His claim that a dismissed speeding ticket was the reason he chose to run at the last minute doesn’t make sense.  Right or wrong, it was just a speeding ticket.

Joe Walsh’s honest leadership is what we need in a county attorney.  He saw the problem of our current county attorney being inexperienced and unwilling to try cases, so he publicly announced his run back in January.  Since then, he has continued to campaign on the facts and his good reputation in the community without controversy.

If you are still undecided on who you should vote for in the upcoming primary election, I enthusiastically recommend Joe Walsh.  He is hard-working and will bring respect back to the office of Mille Lacs County attorney, and that is what is desperately needed now more than ever.

Interesting that Joe Walsh is now being endorsed by Jan Jude… Makes me wonder what kind of under-the-table deal Joe offered to her. If having integrity means that you do the right thing when no one is watching, it is clear that Joe is severely lacking. A vote for Joe is, apparently, a vote for Jan. This county needs new leadership from a real Mille Lacs County native who truly understands us.

Joe has never been able to win an election for any office and is just trying to figure out a way to break into politics after he got thumped by Erickson. Now Joe has hijacked the local democratic party to run for an office that is supposed to be non partisan (lol looks like Jeff Strand lacks integrity as well).

In the past, Joe has accused the City of Princeton and one of its officers of being involved in coercive schemes because Joe once received a parking ticket (and, unlike normal, rational people he decided to fight it). In his failed attempt to get out of the parking ticket, he cost the taxpayers of Princeton because the city lawyer had to respond to Joe’s accusations. Wasting taxpayer money, however, is nothing new to Joe. He did, after all, force a taxpayer-funded recount of the primary ballots in his failed bid for Fillmore County Attorney in 2006 (and the recount result was the same; he got third place).

While Strand claims that Joe has a good reputation with no controversy, let’s remember that Joe makes his living defending criminals (DUI, Domestic Assault, Criminal Sex Offenders, Theft, etc.) and assisting clients in suing local businesses. I think the more we look at Joe, the more we might begin to question Strand’s claim.

Now that Joe has the support of someone who, as Strand says, “holds a grudge and is willing to use a technicality to her advantage,” I agree with Strand. We need to ask if that is the kind of person we want as a county attorney.

Strand states that, “It is easy to use the office of county attorney to do the same to any citizens of Mille Lacs County that she may hold a similar grudge against. The citizens of Mille Lacs County can’t afford to take that risk.”

We can’t afford to take a risk with someone who now aligns himself with a person like that.

We can’t afford to take a risk with Joe.
