Neighbors to Nations in rural Princeton to be renamed Souls Church

“Every person, every soul has a story,” said Dennis Calhoun, pastor of the Neighbors to Nations Church in rural Princeton, as he recently announced plans to rename the church Souls Church this September. souls church
Calhoun is pastor with his wife, Dana Calhoun, at the church, located 4 miles east of Princeton on Highway 95.
Dennis Calhoun spoke fervently about the reason for the name change.
Souls Church LOGO“Driven by a passion to see lives changed for the good and people grow into all God has for them, we are excited to take this local church forward. After stepping up to pastor in 2011 and longing to see a generation fully committed to following God, my wife and I felt we were supposed to go in a new direction, to be more relevant and impacting.”
The church has been Neighbors to Nations since 1999. Before that it was Vineyard Christian Fellowship starting in 1992, and before that it was Open Door Fellowship starting in 1983.
Dennis Calhoun said he got started in ministry at age 13, when he was involved with music missions and “sharing short messages here and there in the Twin Cities.” After returning to Minnesota from a Bible school in 1998, he moved to Princeton to serve at the church. At that time it was a Vineyard church, also known as the “biker church,” he said, in reference to the many motorcycle riders who attended it.
Dennis Calhoun met his wife Dana at the church and they wed in 2009.
Despite all the changes at the church in the past 30 years, its purpose has remained the same, he said – “to reach from our neighbors to the nations with the message of hope and restoration of Jesus Christ.”
Elaborating on the planned name change, Calhoun said that it “just feels natural to name our church something that reflects how Christ works.”
He added: “Through God’s help, we can change from the inside out, we can belong to him long before we ever behave right and we can become all he has created us to be.”
Calhoun called the soon-to-be-named Souls Church a “life-giving place devoted to reaching the unreached, telling the untold and spreading hope found in Jesus Christ.”
Calhoun invites people to visit the church and have a free cup of Starbucks coffee. He said the new church will have a specialty coffee shop with “smoothies, Italian sodas and fancy coffees, a safe and secure kids check-in and kids service, along with uplifting music and a practical message each and every Sunday.”
The Souls Church mission, Dennis Calhoun said, will be to reach and influence residents in the area by “building a Christ-centered, Bible-based church that takes people from where they are to where God wants them to be.”
The grand opening for Souls Church will be Sunday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. Dennis Calhoun said there will be a “dynamic morning service,” followed by a launch party with free food, dessert, giveaways, face painting and a kids concert.
