The Princeton Speedway, Drivers, Fans and all the members of Ryan’s Race team honored Ryan Thom who would have celebrated his 24th birthday this year at the races Friday night. Ryan’s race team sponsored the night of racing by holding many special events. The team gave away many prizes that also consisted of cash to driver’s and fans. The team also accepted food items and gave fans tickets for a chance to drive a Race Pace car before each of the five features we held. Ryan’s race team also held Ryan’s Race a dash for cash for 12 lucky Midwest Modifieds. The night was full of action and a great time to honor Ryan Thom.

The first feature of the night was Ryan’s Race. Ryan’s Race was a dash for cash that 12 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were able to participate in. The following drivers were in the dash: Corey Eystad, Clayton Wagoman, Allen Gessell Jr., Tim Grams, Ryan Bowers, Wayne Troseth, Denis Czech, Jason Vandekamp, Bud Martini, Jeremy Nelson, Jason Hall, and Ryan Studanski. As the green dropped Wagoman quickly grabbed the lead with Eystad and Gessell Jr. right behind him. The yellow quickly flew for Studanski having a mechanical issue. The restart was Eystad and Wagoman. Eystad, Wagoman, and Gessell Jr. battled close for first with Wagoman finding the hole and taking the lead. Wagoman quickly stretched out his lead as Troseth moved into second. The yellow quickly flew again for Eystad who spun out after getting jammed up with other cars. The restart was Wagoman, Troseth and Gessell Jr. Troseth moved right behind Wagoman for the lead. With only two laps to go, Troseth was right on Wagoman’s bumper. As the checkered waved Wagoman was first across the line and took home the trophy and cash prize for Ryan’s Race.

The next feature of the night was for the WISSOTA Street Stocks. Justin Pogones and Jon Gunderson led the drivers around the track as the green waved. Tom Hovind spun out and the yellow quickly flew. The cars were realigned and after three more restarts and loosing five cars the race finally got going. Pogones was first when the green flew with Kris Peterson, and Leon Sorrell right behind him. Ben Rothstein moved in on Sorrell for third. Rothstein took third and moved in on Peterson. Pogones then hit the infield with car problems making Peterson the new leader with Rothstein and Sorrell behind him. Tom Hovind moved into fourth as the yellow flew. Brian Friez and Dan Foss got tangled in turn two. Due to the race time limit the restart would be a green white checkered finish with Peterson leading the pack. Rothstein and Sorrell stayed right behind Peterson while Hovind moved in on Sorrell. Hovind took over third as the race ended. Peterson held of Rothstein and took home his first feature win ever at the Princeton Speedway.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were up next with Tom Balluff and Steve Alsacker on the front line. When the green dropped Alsacker quickly took the lead with Balluff, Denis Czech and Wayne Troseth battling for second. Troseth took second with Czech getting third. Troseth flew up behind Alsacker for the lead. Alsacker and Troseth began a battle for the lead with Troseth eventually grabbing it. Czech then took over second from Alsacker allowing Paul Fontecchio to battle him for third. Czech began to close the gap that Troseth had. Czech battled side by side with Troseth for a few laps. Czech was able to get a slight lead over Troseth as Fontecchio took third and began to move in. Troseth retook the lead but Czech didn’t back down. Troseth held a slim lead over Czech while Dustin Nelson, Alsacker and Bud Martini battled for fourth. Nelson grabbed fourth but Martini stayed on his bumper. Troseth, Czech and Fontecchio had a considerable lead over the drivers with not much race to go. Troseth and Czech began to lap drivers as the race came to a close. The feature went from green to checkered with Troseth taking home his first 2009 feature win at Princeton.

Kurt Kromschroeder and Josh Anderson led the WISSOTA Super Stocks onto the track for the next feature event. As the green waved Justin Dugger spun out and the yellow came out. The restart was Kromschroeder and Anderson. Anderson quickly grabbed the lead with J.B. Stortz and Kromschroeder behind him. Dave Chambliss then spun out and the yellow flew again. Kromschroeder and Anderson took off when the green flew. Kromschroeder, Anderson, Jeremy Snow and Stortz all battled for the lead. Anderson again grabbed the lead with Snow taking second. Stortz locked in third but the yellow came back out. This time the restart was in single file form with Anderson,

Kromschroeder and Snow. Kromschroeder challenged Anderson for the lead but Anderson held him back. Stortz battled Kromschroeder for second with Stortz grabbing it. Snow then took over third but soon Chambliss and Greg Mueller spun out and the yellow came back. On the third restart the race got going with Anderson in first followed by Stortz and Mike Loomis. Cain and Troseth fought hard for the lead. As they came around the front stretch Cain and Troseth’s cars made contact which made Troseth loose and hit the front wall. His car then jolted off the track, hit a tire, began to tip over but landed back right. The drivers were quickly slowed down and the cars sorted out. Troseth was still able to race after looking at his car. Cain went to the back of the race field and the restart was Troseth, Jensen and Larry Zeller. Jensen and Troseth battled for the lead with Zeller on their bumpers. Troseth, Jensen, and Zeller battled closely for the lead. Jensen burst out of the crowd and took the lead. The yellow flew one last time slowing down the drivers. The restart was Jensen, Troseth and Zeller. With only one lap to go Troseth gave it one last push to beat Jensen, but Jensen had a good enough lead that he won the feature.
